My Resurrection Summer

“God has made everything suitable for its time; moreover, God has put a sense of past and future into their minds, yet they cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God’s gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11-13

As soon as my resurrection year began, my resurrection summer was here. And boy, has it been a life-giving summer for sure! And now it’s August! The problem with not blogging regularly is that a lot seems to happen and then I can’t figure out how to fit it all in one post. So I decided to sum it up with a little excerpt following 4 highlight pictures.

My beautiful summer can be summed up in these 4 images:

Number 1 and Number 2:

IMG_1925 IMG_2528These first two images are of my beautiful niece Althea! The first one is when I first met her at the end of May-and my immediate joy and sense of bonding with her… and the second one is in July when I went back to help celebrate her 100 Days! It was great to see her so frequently in such a short amount of time. Seeing videos and pictures of her sent from my sister and brother-in-law are the highlight of those days… I don’t know when I’ll get to see her again, but ever I need a moment of joy or lifting up, seeing her smiling face does the trick. I’m so thankful and blessed to be her emo! She gives me new life every time I see her.

Number 3:

IMG_3090Another highlight of this summer was leading another youth mission trip-this time to Los Angeles. We partnered with Next Step Ministries and served in different parts of L.A., particularly at Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row-and several other sites. Yes, serving and engaging on a trip like this is always powerful. But for me, attending now as a leader, the highlights really come from engaging with the young people. Watching them grow in faith and in service-and bonding together in love-there isn’t much more that is fulfilling to a pastor’s heart than that. It’s an amazing grace and amazing gift to work with compassionate young people-and to see their love for God grow… like literally grow… on a trip like this. Special shout out and thanks to the other leaders that accompanied me: Craig, Mary Jo, and Kathleen! That definitely gave me new life this summer.

Number 4:

IMG_3354Finally, I have been blessed with the gift of this guy. We actually connected soon after my resurrection year began, and he has been a breath of fresh air ever since. What I really want to do is start to gush like crazy about how wonderful he is and be “that” person who is completely obnoxious about it, but I want you all to like him and to keep your food down if you’ve just eaten. 🙂 If you don’t know this about me already, I can be the biggest cheese ball. What I will say is that I have met someone who makes me laugh, who I have been enjoying life with, who I can be myself with, who sings karaoke really loud with me and to me, who calms me when I’m anxious, who cares about me and for me (he likes me! he really likes me!) and who supports me 100 percent as a pastor. It is like receiving the gift of new life every time we meet.

So cheers to a wonderful summer!
