Anyone who has been on and struggled along the health journey knows that the key word to living a healthy lifestyle is PERSEVERANCE.
Some of you know and some of you don’t know that I have been on a health journey for the past 4 years. Yes, I call it a “health journey” because that’s exactly what it is for me. It’s a road with a lot of ups and downs, gains and losses, joys, and grief. Since moving to California, there was a point where I had lost a little over 50 pounds-and I am still thankful to be at a much healthier point now than I was when I first moved here.
This past summer, however, with all my crazy transitions and heartbreak, I literally jumped off the health journey path…perseverance was definitely something I did not have…and I didn’t care. It was very conscious, and unfortunately I think it was my way of coping with everything that was going on.
That said, I did get back on the right track again and began with accountability with friends and signed myself up for a 5K.
And yesterday, I ran that 5K… and I managed to maintain a jogging pace the ENTIRE time. (I could barely run for 5 minutes when I started training earlier this month. I also hate to run). It was AWESOME!
I’m convinced that I was able to jog the entire time because I had my wonderful friend Abby running alongside me. I’m convinced that these past weeks of eating right again is because my friend Christine and I are checking in and on the same page. I continue to be motivated because my friend Mark has also decided to get back on the health path too and if I feel like it’s a struggle, I know I’m not alone. My friend Nate and I randomly check in about eating right and running as well, and it inspires me to keep at it. And it reminds me that none of us can run with perseverance in anything we choose to do without a great cloud of witnesses–great community–surrounding us and cheering us on.
So I’m choosing to release those weights and things that have held me down these past months. I will not be discouraged with how far off I have gone off the health path, but instead choose to celebrate that I got back on it. And if you are one of my cheerleaders in any shape, way, or form for my health journey, THANK YOU. I’m running with perseverance again.
(P.S. I have officially lost my mind and will be signing up for a 10K in early October. Everybody pray for me!)
